Ways to Improve Your Oral Health

Lets talk oral health. Did you know your oral health can affect  your overall wellness?

A growing body of research has identified a connection between oral health and chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s, diabetes and other serious conditions affecting millions of people. 


Which is why its important to maintain good oral health practices. 

My routine includes

  • Like brushing twice a day
  • Oil swishing
  • Tongue scraping
  • And most recently using my Bop water flosser

 

Oil swishing

Also known oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing oil in your mouth for 20 minutes. Coconut, sesame, and sunflower oil are typically used. It is a great way to detox your body.

In the first part of the morning take one tablespoon of a chosen oil. Swish the oil in your mouth for 20 minutes. Afterward, spit the contents of your mouth and brush as usual.

Tongue Scraping

Tongue scraping is another Ayurvedic practice that involves using a device to scrape the tongue. Studies suggest that tongue scraping can remove bacteria and improve bad breath more than brushing. You would scrape after brushing your teeth and flossing using gentle strokes. You want to do about 7-14 strokes rinsing off in between strokes if there is too much accumulation.

 Flossing

Flossing is one of the critical parts of our oral hygiene practices as it helps eliminate food stuck between our teeth and plaque. It is also one of the most neglect as it is often uncomfortable and agitating to the gums. Water flosser are a great alternative to traditional flossing methods. Studies have shown that flossing with a water flosser is up to 29% more effective than traditional floss

Water flossers are

  • Less abrasive
  • Improve gum health
  • Offer deep cleaning
