SMOOTHIE BOWLS 101
I have to admit smoothie bowls have been my obsession for quite some time now. It is a great way to get your daily requirements of fruit, veggies (depending on your recipe) and super foods. So you may be asking "What the heck is a smoothie bowl?" It is a smoothie that is made with the consistency of ice cream or frozen yogurt. They key to acquiring this consistency is the use of frozen fruit; in many cases this is frozen bananas. Frozen bananas give you a very creamy consistency. Another key point is adding very little liquid. If you should had too much you are back in the regular smoothie zone. You want to add just enough (usually a splash will do) to get things moving.
What I love about smoothie bowls is how beautiful they can be. This is where the super foods come in . We usually garnish our smoothie bowls with super foods like goji berries, chia seeds, hemps seeds, as well as fresh fruit. This creates a beautiful medley of colors and textures, as well as a mouthful of bliss. Another beautiful element are edible flowers. Sunshine Smoothie Bowl
- 1 cup frozen pineapple
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger
- 1 tsp Maca (optional)
- 1 tsp Psyllium husk (optional)
Place all ingredients in blender. Blend. Add to bowl garnish with mint, goji berries, coconut, and mandarin oranges.
Berry Breeze Smoothie Bowl
- 2 Frozen Bananas
- ¼ cup Blueberries
- ¼ cup Blackberries
- ¼ cup Strawberries
- 2 cups Spinach or 1 tsp spirulina
- 1 scoop Plant-based protein (optional)*
- Splash Water or plant-based milk
- Place all ingredients except granola and blend until smooth.
- Garnish with granola and fruit.
*Plant-based protein can be replaced with 1-2 tablespoons of nut butter
Pumpkin Smoothie Bowl
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1/2 cup organic pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 1 tsp pumpkin space
- 2-3 dates
Place ingredients in high speed blender blend until smooth. Garnish with bananas, pomegranate, pumpkin seeds, and desiccated coconut.
Heavy Metal Green Smoothie
- 2 Frozen bananas
- 1 cup Mango
- ½ cup Pineapple
- 1 bunch Cilantro
- ½ cup Coconut water
- 1 scoop Plant-based protein (optional)
- 1 sprig Mint
- Granola (optional)
- Fresh Fruit (garnish)
Place all ingredients except granola and blend until smooth. Garnish with granola and fruit.
